Mars in the spotlight – volcanism on the Red Planet
27 sierpnia 2025 roku dr inż. Bartosz Pieterek gościł w Lancaster Environmental Centre na Uniwersytecie w Lancaster, gdzie wygłosił prezentację poświęconą swoim badaniom nad wulkanizmem na Marsie. Wystąpienie odbyło się w ramach pobytu badawczego finansowanego przez program Inicjatywa Doskonałości – Uczelnia Badawcza (IDUB) na Uniwersytecie im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu.
Podczas prezentacji dr Pieterek zaprezentował najnowsze wyniki badań dotyczących ewolucji wulkanizmu w prowincji Tharsis – jednej z najbardziej imponujących struktur geologicznych na Marsie i w całym Układzie Słonecznym. Jego analizy rzucają nowe światło na to, jak zmieniały się marsjańskie wulkany na przestrzeni milionów lat.
Nie zabrakło również wprowadzenia do projektu MARIVEL, finansowanego przez Narodowe Centrum Nauki (NCN). Celem tej inicjatywy jest nie tylko lepsze zrozumienie historii geologicznej Czerwonej Planety, ale także promocja polskich badań planetarnych oraz międzynarodowej współpracy naukowej.
Mars in the spotlight – volcanism on the Red Planet
On August 27, 2025, Dr. Bartosz Pieterek visited the Lancaster Environmental Center at Lancaster University, where he gave a presentation on his research on volcanism on Mars. The presentation was part of a research stay funded by the Initiative of Excellence – Research University (IDUB) program at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.
During the presentation, Dr. Pieterek presented the latest research results on the evolution of volcanism in the Tharsis province – one of the most impressive geological structures on Mars and in the entire Solar System. His analyses shed new light on how Martian volcanoes have changed over millions of years.
There was also an introduction to the MARIVEL project, funded by the National Science Centre (NCN). The aim of this initiative is not only to gain a deeper understanding of the geological history of the Red Planet, but also to promote Polish planetary research and international scientific cooperation.
